Activity Ideas: Have a Family Day Out With Your Dad

Activity Ideas: June 20th was Father’s Day. Have you thought about what you’ll do with your dad for the rest of the year?

It’s been a long year of social distancing and staying away from others. Now that restrictions are slowly lifting, consider having a family day out with your dad while still taking proactive measures to remain safe. See below for some great activity ideas.

Pack a Picnic

Pack a picnic and have a family day out at a beach, city park, or area attraction. If there’s a zoo nearby that allows you to bring in outside foods, everyone has fun watching the animals and also gets to spend time together during a relaxed picnic lunch.

Make sure you follow picnic food safety by keeping perishable salads and meats on ice. However, things like bagged potato chips and bread do not have to be in an ice-filled cooler.

Make Reservations

If you want to eat in a restaurant, find out in advance what the rules are for indoor and outdoor dining. Some may still require masks when you’re walking through the restaurant to your table. Find out how far apart tables are spaced. See if the waitstaff wears masks or not.

For a larger family gathering, you may want to book a private room. You’ll keep your dad away from others in the restaurant who may not have been vaccinated.

Plan Outdoor Activities That You Know He Loves

Your dad was an avid golfer. You could book time at a local miniature golf course. It’s a suitable game for grandchildren, and your dad does something he enjoys. If it’s an outdoor course, it’s easier to stay away from others.

Disc golf is another option. Instead of having a putter and ball that you aim into holes, you throw a frisbee-like disc to the target basket and try to do it in as few throws as possible. As these courses tend to be spread out, your dad has fun and gets plenty of exercises, too.

Activity Ideas: Who Spends Time With Him Each Week?

What happens the rest of the year? If you live hours away, you probably don’t see your dad often. A phone call keeps you in touch, but he is alone at home for weeks at a time. So it’s time to talk to him about caregivers.

Instead of being home alone 24/7, he can have caregivers stop by for companionship. He’ll have friends with him throughout the week for dinner, movie afternoons, and games. He has someone to talk to. Make a call and arrange professional caregivers so they can come up with some great activity ideas too.
